On Sunday, August 27, the Clarissa Fire Department was called by the state of South Dakota to help with a fire. The department has been on the list three times, but this was the first time they were called to help. This was also the first time they were asked to drive from one state to another with their own fire truck. The fire was located near Custer and Hill City, South Dakota. The main reason for the call was to protect the two cities and the historic monuments in the area. The firefighters that were able to go were Fire Chief Bob Cuchna, Lelan Adamietz and Jerry Schnettler.
