News from Clarissa's Past

25 Years Ago

March 28, 2001

John Romstad, Commander of Clarissa Post 213 of the American Legion, announced that Jared Voge, son of Rick and Jane Voge of Clarissa, was named to attend the 53rd Annual American Legion “Legion Boys State” to be held at the Campus of St. Olaf College in Northfield, June 10 through 16.

The Clarissa Senior Citizens have been waiting patiently for their new building to be completed. Now that it is nearly finished, estimates are that it will be ready for occupation in late April of early May. The original group which formed the Clarissa Senior Citizens Center was organized in 1972. For several years they rented the American Legion Hall. In 1976, they were able to purchase the old telephone office where the center was located until the fall of 2000.

50 Years Ago

April 1, 1976

There were three winners in this area who will play in the State Honor Concert to be held at the Northrup Auditorium on the Campus of the University of Minnesota on June 13. They are Daniel Nygren, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Nygren, Ann Pesta, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Pesta, and Timothy Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Miller.

Clarissa High School had nineteen winners and took top honors at the District 22 speech contest held at Long Prairie last Saturday. Sixteen contestants and three alternates will represent this district at the Region Six contest in Morris on April 10.
