The total number of eggs hidden throughout the Independent News Herald’s Spring Edition was 177. The winners of the contest were Nicole Haase of Bertha ($25 cash) and Christine Sanders of Clarissa (Twins Tickets). Most of the eggs were used in the ads, in borders and pictures, etc.

Twenty-eight winners were honored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota and Olympic gold medal winning swimmer Tom Malchow at a statewide recognition banquet held on April 21 at the Minnesota History Center. Heather Klever of Clarissa was among those being honored. She was nominated by Barb Helgeson for her involvement with Teenagers Against Tobacco and the Tobacco Cessation Team in Todd County.

Millie Gilbertson and Marjorie Axum, English teachers at the Clarissa High School, attended the spring conference of the Central Minnesota Council of the Teachers of English. The conference was held on April 28 in St. Cloud. The subject of the conference was “Back to Basics”.

On Arbor Day, April 30, members of the Hoe and Hope and Ladybugs Garden Clubs of Clarissa planted a Linden Redmond (basswood) tree in Clarissa’s City Park on Main Street which will be named the Clarissa Bicentennial tree.
