Lueann Duda felt the tears well up in her eyes when she received the news she had been chosen to be Clarissa’s postmaster. Lueann began as postmaster on May 18 and will be officially installed on June 8. She has lived in Clarissa her whole life. About 15 years ago she passed a test for the postal service to work as a clerk.

The Eagle Valley Education Association has chosen Betty Klein as its 2001 Teacher of the Year. Klein has been a special education teacher in the elementary school at Clarissa the past five years. Prior to going back to college at Moorhead State and receiving a K-12 special education degree, she had worked as a paraprofessional at the high school for nine years.

A manhunt of nearly 10 hours ended on the Main Street in Clarissa last Thursday morning, May 27. The second of two juveniles was arrested about 5:30 a.m. after an all night hunt by sheriff’s deputies and police officers from throughout Todd County.

All Clarissa Bicentennial visitors this weekend are urged to stop in at the Clarissa Oil Station and view the old Pure Oil gas pump that was used in the early pioneer days. The pump was in operation for many years at the Eagle Bend Pure Oil Station. Carol Carrick, owner of the Clarissa Oil Company, purchased the pump from Howard Harlow.
