25 Years Ago

July 11, 2001

A public hearing was held for the alley tarring by the trailer court at the July 2 council meeting. The issue was tabled until the next council meeting to be held on Tuesday, July 17. The cost of tarring the alley would be $5300 with 80% of the cost passed on to the homeowners. There were citizens on both sides of the issue. Those in favor of it felt it was a street, why not pave it? It has been patched for 13 years and is hard on maintenance equipment and drivers go around potholes into their yards.

Independence Day is a day in which most people expect to see fireworks, right? Well if you were at the ballpark in Clarissa on Wednesday you saw some missiles and rockets launched with regularity. Your hometown Clarissa Flyers played host to the Wadena Chiefs on the 4th and the two teams combined to hammer out 37 hits, eight home runs and score 34 runs with the Flyers coming out on top by a score of 22-12.

50 Years Ago

July 15, 1976

The Clarissa Bicentennial chairman has chosen Tim Cuchna as the official Bicentennial orator.

The Brown Swiss breed champion at the annual Region 3 4-H and FFA Dairy Day Cattle Show held at Alexandria on June 17 was a registered two-year-old shown by Randy Kotval of Eagle Bend.
