Eagle Valley Gun Smithing in Clarissa officially opened for business on August 11. The owner, Paul Westlund from Columbia Heights, is no stranger to the Clarissa area. His great-grandfather Charles homesteaded here. Westlund went to Pine Technical College in Pine City for gunsmithing and took additional classes through he National Rifle Association. The front part of the former Clarissa Bakery now resembles a first class hunting lodge.

On Saturday, August 18, when Clarissa Chief of Police John Barber drove by a local business, the rear door was smashed and the glass in the door was broken. Barber said it didn’t look like anyone got in as the inner door was intact. He reported no other damage was found.

August 26, 1976

Farmers in this area, as well as throughout most parts f the state, are suffering one of the hardest hit drought years since the 1930s, according to the Soil Conservation Service.

Progress on the new Todd County Care Center is rapidly showing as nearly all the block foundation have been completed and the first piece of framework was being put up last Tuesday morning.
