There was an abrupt change in plans in just minutes, after a plane hit the Pentagon, for Alan and Karen Perish. The couple was in Washington, D.C., lobbying with the Farmer’s Union. They were in the Cannon Building about two blocks from the capitol and five miles from the Pentagon. They had just begun their lobbying efforts that morning when the attack happened. Alan said he heard the crash but had no way of knowing what it was. Shortly after they were evacuated and told to, “get out.” They entered the street and were urged by police to get away from the large buildings.

Clarissa residents were alarmed this past week when they received their water and sewer bill and a letter stating that a coliform bacteria had been found in the drinking water supply, which was found during routine testing in August. New tests were conducted and they found everything was within range.

September 23, 1976
Jack Hayes is convalescing at the home of his son after receiving injuries when his pants leg became entangled in a power take-off last Sunday afternoon. Hayes was helping fill a silo at the Robert Anderson farm when the accident occurred. The power take-off caught a leg of the overalls he was wearing, ripping them off at his waist.
