Hewitt resident defrauded out of $24,500

On June 9, at 8:55 a.m., the Todd County Sheriff’s Office investigated a fraud/scam case in rural Hewitt.
The reporting party thought they bought a skid loader for $24,500 on an online site. The online site allegedly had a physical location on the east coast of the United States. It was determined that the business did not actually exist.
The victim wired $24,500 from their bank account to another bank account. The victim was expecting delivery of the skid loader, but has since been ignored. The victim is out $24,500 and this case is under investigation.
The Todd County Sheriff’s Office is advising citizens to be wary of scams/frauds on the phone and internet. These scammers typically try to target middle age to elderly people.
