In Focus

I desperately need to get a new car.

I love my car. I bought it in 2007 and it has been very good. This car has been all over the country visiting relatives, survived snowstorms and has never hit a deer. But its age and use are catching up with it.

My poor 2005 car reached nearly 230,000 miles and in the past year or so it has been breaking down more often. And, of course, it always happens at the worst times.

A wheel bearing went out just a day before I needed to drive to the airport in September. Thankfully, it was fixed on short notice.

As I returned from The Cities on Friday, I made it through St. Cloud before it started bucking and sputtering. I pulled into a gas station and checked the fluids and everything appeared fine.

A nice man approached me and asked if I needed some assistance...he was a mechanic. From what he could tell in the gas station parking lot, I was losing a spark plug. Not much we could do about it there. I thanked him for his help and continued to head home, hoping the car would make the trek.

It was odd, the faster I went, the less it bucked. It didnā€™t like to go slow and was idling very hard. If I had to slow up, it bucked hard and my check engine light would blink. Needless to say, it was a nerve-racking drive home but I somehow made it. I was never so relieved as when I was finally parked in my driveway.

My car has been sitting in the driveway all weekend. I hope it will start and make it to the mechanicā€™s.

As much as I love my car and the fact it has been paid off for years, I think it is time to buy a new one. The problem is, I have no clue what I want. All I know is it would be great to get something with AstroStart.

Hopefully, this car will hold out until I can get something different.
