New from Bertha and Hewitt's Pasts

The Bertha-Hewitt band will be performing this summer in Paynesville on June 21, Milaca on June 22, Wadena on June 24, Alexandria on June 25, New York Mills on June 30, Crosby-Ironton on July 4 and Bertha on July 8. The B-H marching band will compete in the Prairie Days parade in Long Prairie on Saturday, June 17, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Bands from Onamia, Cambridge, Minneapolis, Foley and Alexandria will also be competing.

Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale was well represented going down to the State Track and Field meet. Amy Nelson walked away with a State Title in the 100 hurdles, a second place finish in the 300 Hurdles and helped anchor the 400M relay team to achieve a second place finish. Ashley Rach, Amy Jackson, Courtney Stach and Nelson all ran a great race for BHV improving their school record and a second place finish.

June 2, 1950
Former Bertha residents are invited to return to their hometown on June 27 to make a homecoming part of the picnic celebration in observance of the 50th anniversary of the Bertha Cooperative Creamery. A day crammed full of interesting and entertaining events, headed by an address by Governor Luther Youngdahl, is in store for visitors that day.

Joanne Egner and Ervin Schlichting are winners of the American Legion Citizenship Awards. The awardss were presented at the Bertha High School commencement exercises. Earl Leibold, William Larson American Legion Post Commander, made the presentation. The awards are given annually to a girl and boy in the senior class “who best represents those qualities of character and ability, which, when cultivated, results in worthy citizenship and well rounded manhood and womanhood.
