According to the Todd County Sheriff’s Department and the Bertha Chief of Police, these businesses were broke into on the night of Tuesday, June 20, and are currently under investigation: Kapp’s Kafe, nothing taken; Hewitt Co-op, approximately $700 worth of cigarettes and merchandise stolen; House of Hair, $60 in cash stolen; Hurtig’s, nothing taken; Corner Market, attempted break-in; American Legion, cordless drill and $7-$8 in change.

Mitch Messer formally opened his garage in September of 1998. He was trained at Northwest Technical College, Wadena, in automotive repair in 1986-88. Mitch has worked at dealerships and independent garages in the area giving him the opportunity to work on all makes and models of vehicles of all ages. Now he dedicates all his time at home to the shop.

June 29, 1950
Between two to three thousand people crowded into Bertha to help the Bertha Cooperative Creamery celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding. By all standards of measurement the picnic celebration was a decided success. Even the weather cooperated by offering sunshine and mild temperatures most of the day.

A Bertha girl learned the fundamentals of American government though actual practice last week. She was Nelda McIntire, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claire McIntire, who was selected as representative to the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State at the Minnesota Fairgrounds in St. Paul. Nelda was sponsored by the William Larson Unit No. 366 of the American Legion Auxiliary.
