Thanks to his little black cattle dog, Alvah Goodale is alive and recovering from injuries he sustained when he was attacked by a bull on his farm west of Bertha. Alvah was driving the cattle in from the pasture in the evening and was alone. The bull was reluctant to go and Alvah stood outside the pasture fence and tried to get him to move. The bull suddenly attacked him. Without being called the little black cattle dog only called “Puppy” came to the rescue, jumping the fence and landed on Alvah’s chest from where he sunk his teeth into the bull’s nose. Alvah was then able to escape.
