25 Years Ago

June 4, 1997

Dan Hitchcock, president of Dan’s Prize in Long Prairie announced the purchase of 73 acres of land adjacent to and south of the wastewater treatment plant in Browerville. Hitchcock said the plan is to break ground for a 50,000 square foot cooked meat processing plant in six to eight weeks and be operational by the end of the year. The processing plant will cost $5.3 million to build and will be an extension of the operation in Long Prairie.

Joel Sutherland is Evie Jonckowski’s son-in-law, married to her daughter Pam, but that Browerville connection is not Joel’s only claim to fame. Joel is the general manager of the River Bats, a minor league baseball team he promoted and convinced the city of St. Cloud to invest in and let them set a schedule of 64 games, many to be played in Putz Field.

The Welding Technology program at Alexandria Technical College is pleased to announce that a scholarship has been awarded to Glen Buhl, recognized for his achievement in the welding field. Glen was selected based on guidelines set by the program. He is a 1996 graduate of Browerville High School and is the son of Lloyd and Judy Buhl.

Dairy Foods is the focus of a couple of events happening on Saturday, June 28, in Browerville. The Todd County American Dairy Association and the Todd County Extension Service are sponsoring a Dairy 5-A-Day recipe contest and a dairy foods demonstration contest.
