When the Browerville firefighters responded to a house fire last Thursday they found more than just the flames engulfing Brian and Katherine Heldt’s home. Katherine, 35, and her husband, Brian, 39, were found dead in the house, victims of a murder suicide. Kathy had been fatally shot in the head. Authorities believed Brian shot his wife, then set the house on fire and took his own life.

Girls basketball All Conference Players are Senior Rawney Thompson, Junior Sarah Gonsior and Honorable Mention Andrea Geraets. Boys All Conference were Mitch Johnson, Ryan Gritz and Honorable Mention Dan Jonckowski.

The Browerville Commercial Club met at the city hall on Monday evening at 8:30 p.m. A good number of members were present. Several matters of business were discussed. The various committees, working on plans for the 1950 Dairy Day to be held on June 20, gave favorable reports on progress made at this time. Another one of those famous Browerville celebrations, done up in the old-fashioned way, is in the making with more and new added attractions to entertain the crowds who will in town.

Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Kotula have taken possession of the former Ed’s Place which is located one-half mile south of Browerville on Highway 71. Their date of opening is not definite, and it depends upon the completion of the redecorating of the interior and the installation of equipment. The new owners announced they will serve a complete line of foods. Their menu will include sea foods and barbecued foods.
