News from Eagle Bend's Past

June 4, 1997

Eagle Bend’s 1997 Memorial Day observance included the dedication of a monument that was placed in the Grand Army Republic’s (GAR) cemetery east of Eagle Bend. “This cemetery we stand in today was founded in 1886 by members of the GAR,” said Harlen Guse, Todd County Veterans Service Officer. “There are no records as to the exact date the first interment was made. I’m sure for as long as most of us can remember, Eagle Bend has held its Decoration or Memorial Day service on this spot.” For years, many people have called this the Legion Cemetery, as the care fell upon the Legion.
