25 Years Ago

July 30, 1997

The subject of signs was brought up again. This time it was two welcome signs being placed on either side of town by the Petal Pushers Garden Club, Wykeham Willing Workers and the Girl Scouts. Liz Westergren explained the design of the signs to the council and told them they had permission to place them on private property. They will be wooden signs and will be surrounded with blooming flowers.

After three years of work, the Long Prairie River Stewardship Project’s Steering Committee has published their comprehensive plan for the Long Prairie River which travels 100 miles from near Alexandria to the village of Motley. “It’s not really comprehensive,” said Tim King, the editor of the 98 page document entitled The Long Prairie River: The Citizen’s Vision. It covers material from the great 1860 earthquake in Long Prairie to microscopic aquatic insects. They even threw in an ax murder and lynching.


50 Years Ago

July 27, 1972

Land O’ Lakes announced that as of August 1, 1972 the creamery in Eagle Bend will be closed.

Water testing kits are available at the local post office for anyone having their own wells which were flooded, said Earl C. Mittag, Civil Defense Coordinator for the village of Eagle Bend. Water should be boiled before using until the well has been tested.
