25 Years Ago

February 21, 1996

Two Eagle Valley senior citizens were crowned as Valentine’s queen and king last Wednesday. Queen for a day was Mayor Nelson and king for a day was Andrew Eberle.

The Eagle Bend Fire Department was called to a chimney fire at the Glenn Kuperus farm around noon on Sunday. The firemen helped Kuperus clean the chimney and exhausted the smoke out of the house.


50 Years Ago

February 18, 1971

Myron Bjerkaas and Loren Smith, both residents of Eagle Bend, have been accepted for leadership in the United States Collegiate Wind Band organization that will complete a concert tour in five of the world’s capitols next August. Their parents are Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Bjerkaas of rural Eagle Bend, and Dr. and Mrs. E. H. Smith of Eagle Bend. In the local high school band, conducted by Mr. Donn Harris, Myron plays a baritone saxophone while Loren plays the trombone.

On February 9, the Eagle Bend Cagers topped the Swanville Five 74-61 and racked up their 12th victory of the season. The teams kept their fans on the edge of their seat throughout the entire game with spurts of scoring on both sides. But the Eagles had the advantage of height and were able to out-rebound Swanville and picked up that extra tip-in when it counted.
