Runners Excel at Balmoral Golf Course

The Bertha-Hewitt cross country teams traveled to Balmoral Golf Course in Underwood on Thursday, October 3, where runners were once again met with warm conditions on an already demanding course.
In the girls’ varsity 5K, senior Miette Hansel surged to the front early and took control by the two-mile mark. She never relinquished the lead and crossed the line in first place with a time of 21:04.47. Fellow senior Mckayla Kapphahn narrowly missed a top-ten finish, placing 12th in 23:29.33, while Aulani Johnson turned in a strong performance, finishing 15th in 24:29.09.
The boys’ varsity team delivered one of the most dominant performances of the season, winning the meet with an impressively low score of 20 points and placing all six runners in the top 12. Leading the charge was Brady Rach, who claimed first with a time of 16:45.41. Gunnar Barthel followed him in second (17:42.20), Nolan Rach in fourth (17:42.57), Henry Lockwood in fifth (17:48.68), Vance Lockwood in seventh (18:20.16), and Jakub Stovicek in 12th (19:42.76).
