Verndale City Council: Council approves sidewalk survey, expansion plans
by Trinity Gruenberg
The Verndale City Council held their regular meeting on Tuesday, November 12.
Sidewalk Update
Ryan Odden with Moore Engineering gave an update on the sidewalk concerns.
Previously, the council decided there was no need for a sidewalk on the west side of Thompson Street, just add a sidewalk from Brown Street to the ball field entrance on 5th Avenue. There was concern about installing a sidewalk on the residential north side of 5th Avenue if it meant removing mature trees.
A sidewalk can be added to the north side of 5th Avenue without removing mature trees. Adding a sidewalk to connect the end of 5th Avenue along the county road to the south side of 4th Avenue is possible.
As it wasn’t surveyed initially, it would cost $6000 for that section to be surveyed.
The plan is to start bidding in January and have the sidewalks installed in 2025. Discussed using profits from the liquor store to pay for the additional survey.
John Rousslang asked why they are not connecting the sidewalk from Farwell to Brown Street on 4th Avenue? They are adding one to the south side, not to the north side.
The additional sidewalk and the survey were approved....
