Verndale Cross Country Team Kicks Off Season with Impressive Performances

The Verndale Cross Country team has had a busy beginning of the season. The first meet we participated in was the Brave Like Gabe meet hosted by Perham. This meet took place on Saturday, August 29th at The Pioneer Village in Perham.
There were 40 teams competing at this meet, split by school size into two different groups. Running for the Junior High girls’ team was Elliana Mathison, who finished the two-mile course in 19 min. 51 sec. Running for the Junior High boys’ team was Sawyer Mayer, who completed the course in 15 min and 36 seconds, and David Skillings, who finished with a time of 21 minutes and 3 seconds.
Running on the Varsity girls’ team was Angelica Arroyo, who finished the 3.1-mile course with a time of 26 min 26 sec; Haylee Horn, who finished in 32 min 14 sec, followed by Heta Tervola-Hultberg finishing in 33 min 11 sec, Amiyah Herner completing the course in 34 min 42 sec, and Sophie Hjelm finishing in 45 min 56 sec.
Competing on the Varsity boys’ team is Korbyn Grieger, who completed the course in 23 min 19 sec; Charlie Johnson finished in 20 min 56 sec; Kristian Larsen, who finished in 32 min 42 sec; Logan Lamphere, who finished in 33 min 22 sec; and Matt Allen, who finished with a time of 33 min 57 sec...
