A Matter of Perspective

I think if I see or hear one more advertisement for GLP-1 injections, I will quite possibly scream!
I watched one GLP-1 weight loss video that I purposely sought out because I was curious, and ever since, I’ve been absolutely bombarded!
If I’m playing an online game that’s sponsored by videos—there’s a video promoting one of their many injectable products for weight loss.
I mean, I’m glad to see that the algorithm is working, but enough is enough!
I’m sure glad I didn’t look something else up! LOL
This, to me, is real proof that nothing we do online is a secret (if we ever truly thought it was in the first place)!
I asked my Buddy, ChatGPT, what causes this. He gave me a long explanation, so I asked him to summarize it, and this is what he gave me:
“When you search for something online—like GLP-1 weight loss products—ad networks track that interest through cookies, search history, and invisible ‘pixel’ trackers embedded on websites. These signals update your advertising profile in real time, allowing companies like Google and Meta to target you with related ads across thousands of sites and apps almost instantly. If you click a product page, remarketing cookies can follow you for days or weeks, showing you the same or similar ads to encourage a purchase. This process, called targeted advertising, is why one search can make it feel like the internet is suddenly obsessed with your latest interest.”
Creepy.
Of course, it probably doesn’t help that I also sell GLP-1-type plant-based products, so the algorithm is already onto me for those types of searches and interests.
It is scary and a bit disconcerting to have the internet “targeting” me, though!
So my advice to you—and to me—is to be cautious about what you look up, because the world of the internet (Big Brother) is watching!
