The Bertha-Hewitt Bears closed out an impressive regular season with a 40-12 win over the Mille Lacs Raiders on Wednesday night. The victory moves the Bears to 7-1 on the year and earns them a share of the District Championship alongside Cromwell-Wright—marking the first district/conference title for the program in 15 years.
The game didn’t start the way the Bears hoped, as Mille Lacs found the end zone early to take a 6-0 lead. From there, however, Bertha-Hewitt took control. The Bears stormed back with 20 unanswered points to close the first half, fueled by a dominant ground game and strong execution on both sides of the ball.
Head Coach Jared Hoemberg was proud of the team’s response and the milestone they achieved: “We gave up an early score, but our guys didn’t panic. We settled in, trusted our plan, and started executing. Once we got rolling, we played some really good football. This group is special—they’ve earned everything that’s come their way.”
The Bears pounded the ball on the ground all night, continuing to build on their identity of physical, disciplined play...
