Bears lose to the Pirates on homecoming

On Friday, the Bertha-Hewitt Bears football welcomed the Undefeated Verndale Pirates to town for homecoming. Verndale was ranked #2 in class 9-man coming into the game.

The Pirates are led by twelve seniors and veteran Coach Mike Mahlen.

“Verndale is a tremendous program that has loads of talent and experience. Like Wheaton last week, Verndale is another program we are striving to become,” stated Coach Hoemberg

Throughout the game, Verndale managed to score early and often but with resistance from the Bears.

“We had a difficult time stopping Verndale at times, but we were able to make some wonderful improvements and played hard the entire game,” said Coach Hoemberg. . .
