Bears Open Cross Country Season at Central Minnesota River Run

The Bertha-Hewitt Bears cross country team opened a busy week of competition on Monday, August 31, traveling to Staples for the Central Minnesota River Run. Warm and humid conditions greeted the runners as they competed in their first meet of the season.

Head coach Kenny Miller elected to use a split-squad approach for the week, with the majority of the Bears competing Monday in Staples and the remaining athletes scheduled to race Friday at Minnesota State University Moorhead.

Leading the way for Bertha-Hewitt in the girls varsity race was junior Aulani Johnson, who turned in a strong season-opening performance. Johnson placed 29th overall with a time of 24:09.6. Freshman Claire Williams followed with a 57th-place finish in 26:52.2, while sophomore Amelia Current finished 84th with a time of 34:33.3...
