Bears Storm Past Verndale in the Second Half

The Bertha-Hewitt Bears improved to 3-0 on the season with a statement win over rival Verndale on Friday night, defeating the Pirates 30-6. The victory marks the second year in a row that the Bears have topped Verndale in this rivalry matchup.
The first half was a battle, with both teams trading punches in a physical contest. At halftime, the score was tied 6-6, but the Bears came out of the locker room with focus and energy, dominating the second half on their way to victory.
Bertha-Hewitt leaned heavily on its ground game, racking up 370 rushing yards behind a determined offensive line. The relentless rushing attack wore down the Pirates and broke the game open in the final two quarters.
“This was a tough, physical football game, and Verndale really challenged us in the first half,” said Head Coach Jared Hoemberg. “I was really proud of the way our team responded after halftime. We came out with energy, trusted our game plan, and controlled the second half...”
