25 Years Ago

January 13, 1999

An early morning fire destroyed the Miltona Liquor Store and an adjoining building on Sunday morning. The fire was discovered about 5:30 a.m. when the paper boy delivering the Sunday paper saw smoke coming from the buildings. He ran to a nearby home to report the fire. Four fire departments, including Miltona, Carlos, Parkers Prairie and Alexandria, fought the fire which threatened an entire block until about 1 p.m. The fire appeared to have started in an old building between the bar and Miltona Builders Supply.

Eagle Valley High School is proud to announce that Amber Benning and Daniel Beach have been selected as the 1999 Triple A Award (Academics, Arts and Athletics) winners. The award is co-sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League of America. One male and one female may be nominated from each school in Minnesota.


50 Years Ago

January 10, 1974

This area is still enduring sub-zero temperatures which have dominated the state for the past 10 days, beginning on December 29. Temperatures have stayed below the zero mark each day registering a low of -27 with a windchill of -30.

Herbert Wolff, school superintendent, was reelected for a third year as president of the Clarissa Commercial Club at the club’s monthly meeting held Tuesday noon at the Coffee Cup Cafe.
