Takeshi Taniyama, 13, is a long way from home this summer. He spent almost a month with the Patrick Lunemann family in rural Clarissa. He is from Fukuoka, Japan. The Lunemann family is very active in the Hustlin Rustics 4-H Club. 4-H offers an exchange program for young people to got to other countries. Jody Lunemann explained they were looking for a host family and she felt it would be a good experience for the kids.

Vandals were busy letting the air out of tires over the weekend in Clarissa and Eagle Band. According to a representative of Central Ag Services in Clarissa, the valve cores were pulled out of the tires on the large sprayers in Clarissa. He said that in Eagle Bend the vandals did the same thing to the grinder mixers and a pick-up that was at the Eagle Bend Central Ag location. According to the Eagle Bend Chief of Police Tony Pangal, air was let out of the police car tires also and a few others in Eagle Bend. Pangal said the sheriff’s department was called about 1:30 a.m. on Monday to report these incidents.

August 28, 1975
A doctor is planning to move to Clarissa and set up practice in the former office of Dr. F.N. Grose who has recently retired. She is Dr. Lillian A. Olson, who is presently at Bertha. Her tentative plans are to move here sometime this fall.

With school in the state set to reopen this week, Minnesota State Patrol Chief James C. Crawford urges motorists to exercise extra caution while driving and to be particularly watchful for the many school buses which will be transporting youngsters to and from school.
