Placing at sub-section competition last Thursday, March 28 were Gail Butler, third place Informative Speaking; Jessica Samuelson, fifth place Informative Speaking; Beth Blashack, Alternate Prose; and Nancy Kuperus, alternate Informative Speaking. These four speakers advance to the section competition scheduled for April 13 at Barrett, West Central Area Schools.

Members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bertha observed Palm Sunday with a dramatization presented by about 50 young parishioners. Paul Davis played Jesus. In this scene, he reveals that he knows he is about to be betrayed by Judas who is played by Jessica Samuelson. Other disciples were played by Luke Miner, Billy Davis, Katie Miner, Joey Boehland, Nick Schwantz, Matt Hartung, Michael Stokes, Kim Brasel, Andy Kirscht, and John Hartung. Jenny Wallner served as innkeeper. The drama also included a procession at the beginning of Mass with all the participants. David rode in on a donkey, “Number Seven,” loaned from Elmer Precht of Eagle Bend.

The OTW Baseball League, inactive during the war years, has been revived with 21 towns expressing a desire to enter teams. Two sections were determined: the west section is composed of Bertha, Browerville, Carlos, Clarissa, Long Prairie, New York Mills, Osakis, and Parkers Prairie. The east section is composed of teams from Buckman, Flensburg, Grey Eagle, Little Falls, Pierz, Randall, Swanville, and Upsala.

The Bertha Women’s Club will hold its meeting on Monday evening at the high school. Miss Pfeiffer of Long Prairie will be the guest speaker and the topic is “Preparation of Foods for the Locker.” Hostesses will be Miss Genevieve Rapatz and Madames William Cornell, Kermit Miller, Leonard Sagehorn, Ellsworth Hartung and Eunice Bluhm.
