News from Eagle Bend's Past

25 Years Ago

March 15, 1995

A fast thaw and ice jams under the bridges were an unfortunate combination in Eagle Bend. Dave Gosiak, who lives three blocks from the creek, found his house surrounded by water Monday morning. In the early morning hours Monday, the creek rose over the first two bridges on the north end of town. The creek then took a new path, flowing down North Street and Main Street all the way through town.

Grant Hest, of Eagle Valley High School, was recently chosen for the 1994-95 recipient of the AAA award for sub-section 6A-2. The award was presented by Richard Johnson of Henning and Jack Stackpool of Minnewaska. Grant is pictured with his parents Barb and Rick Hest of Eagle Bend.


50 Years Ago

March 12, 1970

Twenty-three voters in Burleene township gave their unanimous support to Mike Ahrens as supervisor and Omer Pederson as clerk. Nels Braaten and Kenneth Nelson were unanimously returned to the respective posts of supervisor and clerk in Whykeham Township. Each candidate for office received the total of 11 votes.

The Eagle Bend Produce Company held its annual meeting on Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m. in the Eagle Bend High School auditorium. The meeting was called to order by president Harold Krause. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read by Secretary Kenneth Captain. Manager Elmer Peterson gave the financial report. This year’s business resulted in a very fine report. The total liabilities were down by $10,000; sales were up from a year ago. Member assets owned is 93.5 percent which is very good. The operating net savings were $9181.
