Raiders Earn Qualifications for Sections Finals
by Coach Kenny Miller The Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale Raiders traveled to Long Prairie for the Section 6A Sub-Section Track and Field Meet, where athletes once again battled challenging breezy conditions throughout the day. The top six individuals and top three relay teams in each event automatically advanced to the Section Meet, along with the next four best individual performances and the next two fastest relay times overall between the two sub-sections. Raiders Stack Up Qualifiers at Section 6A East Sub-Section Meet
The Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale boys track and field team turned in several strong performances at the MSHSL Section 6A East Sub-Section meet held Thursday, May 21, at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Secondary School. Senior Brady Rach led the Raiders with a first-place finish in the 800-meter run, clocking a season-best 1:56.39 to qualify for the next round. Much has happened since I first shared about my mom’s cancer returning. After 10 days of radiation treatment for the tumor in her brain, she rang the bell on April 22. Though it was a joyous moment for us, it was not the end; that was just the first step. Once her blood tests returned to determine the best course of action, Mom began chemotherapy on May 12, as the cancer is also in her lungs and neck.
