A Matter of Perspective

As of this writing, the Minnesota state restrictions for staying at home have been extended until May 4. They have been loosened somewhat to allow a few “outdoor” establishments to re-open to the public including some lawn and garden type businesses as well as places like golf courses. Always remember to maintain that six foot social distancing, of course. I’m not trying to be negative here, but I do have a question...What about mosquitos? Mosquito “season” will be upon us soon. Mosquitos are known to carry and spread disease—Malaria, West Nile, Zika, Dengue, Yellow Fever, Chikungunya, La Crosse Encephalitis, Jamestown Canyon Virus, Snowshoe Hare Virus and others that are seldom found in the United States. According to the National Pesticide Information Center, “Some mosquitoes are vectors for diseases. This means they can transmit diseases from one human or animal to another. Typically, the diseases are caused by viruses or tiny parasites. For example, a mosquito that bites an infected human or animal can pick up a virus along with the blood meal. The mosquito and virus do not harm one another, but the virus reproduces inside the mosquito. Later, the mosquito can pass the viruses to other humans when biting them. I don’t like mosquitos. It might even be fair to say I “hate” them. But seriously, with COVID-19 being a disease which has the potential to affect all of us, doesn’t it make sense then that mosquitos could help spread it? If I had any money right now, I would invest in mosquito spray! I am sure those in authority have considered this, but it just adds another reason for me to hate those nasty little blood suckers! In other news.... • I have added a few thousand words to my novel for Camp NaNoWriMo. I may actually get my book finished this time! I haven’t had anyone want to write with me, but I will keep trying! • For those who saw my Facebook video about watching every single movie and series on Netflix—I was kidding. I have not watched any more TV than normal as I am keeping busy with work and writing my book. Thanks for all of the suggestions, though! • Is it just me or do others feel like they are measuring time by meals? I find myself judging morning based on breakfast and so on. I think we are going to HAVE to host a Be A Loser with Karin contest when this is all said and done because I have gained a few pounds. Until next time, be well!
