A Matter of Perspective

There is no doubt this past election “season” has been upsetting.

I think people were so sick of hearing political ads that were “upsetting” that they were just relieved when election day arrived.

There were also some “upsets” for offices including the President of the United States.

That one may remain “upsetting” for a while as President Trump is fighting to maintain his position over President-Elect Joe Biden.

In addition to the campaigns going on and the election itself, there was also the weather.

We had a lot of snow in October. That made the mood of a lot of people a bit “off.”

Oh, and let’s not forget the little pandemic that has been going on almost all year.

I find that upsetting.

Do you know what else I find upsetting? When people say that COVID-19 doesn’t exist.

The reason being, my mom is in the hospital right now sick with COVID-19. She has been there for several days. I can’t go see her. I haven’t seen her much at all since March when all this began.

I am tired of being upset.

I would like to see an end to the BS that takes place during the election season.

I think for the next one, the only thing one candidate can say about another one is something good that the other one did. That would significantly reduce the bashing that goes on. Have you noticed that all the ads we heard this year (and in previous years) were about what the “other candidate” did wrong?

But I think, to be fair, the American people should require that the exact same amount be spent on advertising under the new rules about saying something nice about your opponent. That way, if one party typically spends $1 million on a campaign, then they should be required to spend that much on a “nice” campaign. I think that is only fair.

Can you just picture the ads?

Presidential candidate one says, “I fully feel that my opponent would do an amazing job. He has proven time and time again that he puts the American public first.”

Candidate two could follow up with an ad that says, “I think my opponent would be a great leader for our country. He has been active in helping people succeed in business.”

See the pattern here?

Nice.

Anyway, I don’t see that happening any time soon, but it sure would be less upsetting for the American public!
