Accident near Wadena claims two lives
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, on October 26, at 4:51 p.m., a Peterbilt semi, driven by Kenneth Alan Breland, 63, of Canton, Mississippi, was traveling southbound on Highway 71 near 190th Street when a Cadillac STS going northbound veered over the center line and they collided head-on.
The driver of the Cadillac, Tina Marie Dawson, 58, of Anoka, and passenger, Todd Allen Dawson, 57, of Park Rapids, were both killed in the accident.
Breland sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Tri-County Health Care.
Assisting at the scene were the Wadena County Sheriff’s Office, Wadena Fire Department and Tri-County Ambulance and the Mid-West Medical Examiner’s Office.
Fire personnel was on scene for several hours to assist law enforcement with the crash and clean up of debris. They put down 10 bags of floor dry on an area of the roadway to clean up vehicle fluids that had leaked out after the impact.
