Area Schools Hold Steady in Enrollment

A new school year is underway, and students are settling into their routines. Some are back in familiar classrooms, while others are getting to know new teachers and hallways.
Enrollment across local districts has stayed fairly steady, with only small changes as families move, transfer or explore other options like homeschooling, online learning or ALC programs.
But while classrooms are full, funding is getting a little tighter. This year, schools across Minnesota are seeing the effects of losing compensatory funding—money that helps support students who need extra academic help or additional resources.
One simple way families can make a difference is by filling out the Free and Reduced-Price Lunch forms. Even though meals are currently free for all students, these forms are still critical for schools to qualify for important state and federal funding. That funding helps pay for things like classroom materials, technology, and programs that support student success.
So if you haven’t filled out the form yet this year, take a few minutes to do so—it truly helps your school and your community.
The following enrollment numbers are based on the first week of school.
Bertha-Hewitt
The Bertha-Hewitt School started the year with 468 K-12 students, which is down from 471 the previous year.
They have 274 elementary students and 194 high school (7-12) students. The largest classes are first, third and fourth, with 46 students, and the smallest is fifth grade, with 22 students...
