by Trinity Gruenberg

Dylan Bennett plead guilty to two counts of first-degree murder on August 24 in Todd County District Court in the death of his parents Carol and Barry Bennett.

Bennett was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of murder in the second degree with intent-not premeditated for the August 2019 murders in the Bennett’s rural Long Prairie home.

Judge Shan C. Wang sentenced Bennett to life in prison without parole in St. Cloud. The two counts of second-degree murder were dismissed. A trial hearing was scheduled to begin on September 14 and has now been canceled.

On August 21, 2019, the bodies of Carol and Barry Bennett were discovered in their rural Long Prairie home.

The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office determined the couple died of homicide due to gunshot wounds. Carol had multiple gunshot wounds to her back and torso. Barry had gunshot wounds to his torso and head. . . .
