Cancer patients of all ages need blood too

When cancer patients are facing treatments, blood and platelet transfusions give them the strength they need to get through another day. Dave and Cassandra Klimek of Miltona, formerly of Eagle Bend, said this has definitely been the case for their son.

Five-year-old Kaleb has endured five rounds of chemotherapy treatments, has been poked and prodded hundreds of times, and has had a number of blood and platelet infusions, among a plethora of other procedures, test, scans and so much more.

When Cassandra was pregnant with Kaleb, her firstborn, she ended up having severe preeclampsia, a dangerous pregnancy complication characterized by high blood pressure that can lead to serious, even fatal complications for both the mother and the baby. Kaleb was delivered via emergency C-section at just 34 weeks. His lungs were not fully developed, among other health problems, and he almost didn’t make it. . .
