Good things may come in small packages, but interesting things vary in size. Take for example, the 20 foot totem pole in the front yard of Clarissa residents Al and Carol DeMeo. Al carved and Carol helped paint the structure from a cedar utility pole removed from a neighbor’s back yard. Carved on the structure are faces of some local youth and the unmistakable mug of DeMeo’s pooch, Fritz. Sitting atop the totem is an American eagle. Below is a rather frightening creature Al calls Scarface. He watches over in descending order; Kirk Hayes, Clarissa; Jason Lennes, Eagle Bend; Fritz; Susie Hayes and Joy Wiltermuth, both of Clarissa.

Repair work was done to the front of Clarissa Drug last week. It must have been the one day the sun was out this month. The brick on the front of the building had been damaged by a vehicle.
50 Years Ago April 16, 1970 Marlyn Duda, Deborah Gilbertson and Dale Karjala will participate in the Region Six Speech Contest at Fergus Falls as a result of their performance at the District 22 contest at Alexandria last Saturday. Bonnie Bergs and Bernard Rolfes were chosen as first alternates in their respective divisions. ********** Merle Benson, owner of the Clarissa Farm Service Store, informed the Independent this week that he purchased the lime spreading equipment from M. D. Nelson of Avon. The lime and equipment has been located by the railroad tracks in Clarissa.
