Spelling Bee participants: Charles Booker, Carla Anderson and the winner, Darcy Brekke. Carrie Lorentz placed second and is the alternate. Elementary Spelling Bee participants: Cassie Severin, Adam Notch, Greg Holmquist, Justin Boseck and James Wildman.

Feature students of Eagle Valley Elementary. Nathan Nauber, kindergarten; Hannah Landecker, first grade; Henry Ahrens, second grade; Jennifer Winter, third grade; Emil Lind, fourth grade; Amanda Hartman, fifth grade and Andrew Van Heel, sixth grade. Question: What season do you like best and why? Nathan: He’s waiting for summer so he can use the swing set. Hannah: She like summer because she likes to swim. Henry: He definitely likes winter because of snowmobiling. Jenny: Summer is best for swimming. Emil: He likes all seasons except for the slushy part of spring. Amanda: She’s a summer girl because of basketball and swimming. Andrew: He likes summer so he can play baseball, but also likes the variety of seasons.


50 Years Ago

February 26, 1970

A local farmer, Robert Behrends, was one of three dairymen who won trophies at the annual meeting of the Todd County Dairy Herd Improvement Association on February 17 at St. Peters Catholic Church basement in Browerville. Mr. Behrends won the trophy for having the highest butterfat production average in the central unit of the organization.

Two local young people were winners in the preliminary piano contest sponsored by the Minnesota Music Teachers Association. Nancy Kuehne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Kuehne and Jonathon Hanson, son of Rev. and Mrs. Andrew Hanson. The winners are students of Mrs. Margaret Johnson of Clarissa.
