Raymond Reed and his wife, Rose, were on their way to Sunday dinner at their son’s when she was injured in a two vehicle accident in Clarissa. The accident happened around noon when Jarrod Turner apparently slid through the stop sign in front of the Reed pickup. Turner was westbound on Chapel Garden Road and Reed was southbound on County Road 11. Rose was transferred to the Long Prairie Hospital by Browerville Ambulance. She was treated for two broken ribs and other bruises and released. No one else was injured.

In a display of solidarity, the Clarissa and Eagle Bend School boards voted unanimously, on a roll call vote, to approve the district’s plan to consolidate the two school districts into one. Al Drayna was absent from the meeting. The plan, which will be submitted to the Commissioner of Education, calls for an election in June, with the consolidation to become effective on July 1, 1995. The boards also approved a resolution for the legislature to pass a special bill allowing the districts to develop an alternative plan to pay off their bonded debts.

Five students of the Clarissa High School were inducted into the National Honor Society at the traditional annual ceremony at the auditorium last week Wednesday. Named to the honor society this year were Jim Behrends, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Behrends; Donna Pachan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Pachan; Julie Woge, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Woge; Jarl Perna, son of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Perna and Tom Baker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Baker.

The Buccaneers of the Clarissa High School reversed a number of years of bad luck on the basketball floor during the past week, and worked their way into second place in the sub-district tournament and thus earned the right to play in the district. They won their two first sub-district games by defeating Upsala and Eagle Bend, but lost the title to Browerville. For a second time they went to the district last Monday evening, but were defeated by Evansville.
