The Monday without doughnuts...
Since I began working at the paper, I have stopped in Eagle Bend to get doughnuts to bring to the office every Monday morning. Monday is deadline day and paper day. If we have issues with the internet or computers...yes, it’s usually on a Monday. I mean, sometimes our Mondays bite, and doughnuts just make things slightly better.
I have been doing this for years. Then the pandemic struck. And we all began to work from home, meaning no more Monday doughnuts for the office. That was about a year with no doughnuts.
As we all returned to the office, the doughnuts came back, too. It is just part of our Monday routine...doughnuts, coffee and sometimes yelling at our computer to work, and catching up with each other about our weekend.
Everything feels just a little off without morning goodies to snack on. As far as I am concerned, calories and carbs don’t count on Mondays. A former co-worker even gave me the title “evil doughnut fairy” because I was the destroyer of diets.
Who can resist doughnuts? Mondays are hard, why make it harder than it needs to be?
Every once in a while, something happens where I don’t bring the doughnuts and it doesn’t go unnoticed. It’s so ingrained into us at this point to go for the doughnut box, and when it’s not there, it just doesn’t feel right.
This past Monday, I had to bring Salem (my cat) to the vet to get him fixed. On our way to Clarissa, he busted the carrier and was running free around the car meowing. Needless to say I was unable to stop for doughnuts. I didn’t want to risk him getting out, or messing with the precious glazed rings. Plus, he is a foodie, and would probably have gotten into the box and snacked on them.
So, I continued on and headed straight to the vet’s office.
Later at the office, a co-worker showed up and asked about the absence of the doughnuts.
Well, we just had to struggle through the day without the sweet morning treat. Of course, it also wouldn’t be a Monday without some sort of issue. Better that it was no doughnuts than some technical glitch.
