In Focus

I know it’s only August, but I have been preparing for my Halloween light show.

About this time last year I received my equipment and software to host my first light show. I can’t believe it’s been a year already!

A month and a half really isn’t that much time to put a show together from scratch. Last year I was scrambling. At the time, I was happy with what I had produced. Looking back at it now, I’m not so impressed.

Since that time I have acquired 64 channels. I had to redo my existing sequences. I feel I have a much better grasp on how to program the songs and the transition was a lot easier and faster. In a week and a half I completely revamped six of the original songs I used, and have added a new one. I am planning to add possibly two more new songs. There is just so many to choose from! I’m so excited to see the final result.

As I have been busy programming, my mom has also been very busy. She’s pretty much the prop master and set builder. This year we will have a coffin! We purchased a prop coffin...not real, of course. Mom has cleaned it up and painted it. We’re also going to be making pumpkin towers and a revamped creepy door with hands protruding out of it. Adding to the ambience will be big, 16-foot spider webs that will hang from the house. We are very excited!

I have to admit I’m a little worried about the Christmas show. After last year’s holiday, mom went on a shopping spree. We acquired a ton of new seasonal items. I don’t even know where to start! The layout will be completely different from last year. I’m guessing it’ll be another major overhaul.

I’m just glad I have more time to work on my light shows this year and I have gained a little more knowledge and experience since last year.
