News from Bertha and Hewitt's Past

25 Years Ago

June 21, 1995

The Bertha-Hewitt High School Marching Band has been selected to compete among 25 bands in Alexandria’s 11th annual Vikingland Band Festival on June 25. Known as Minnesota’s biggest summer marching band competition, the festival offers competing bands nearly $8000 in awards. In addition to earning cash prizes, bands this year have another incentive to perform well as the festival has been named a band selection site for the Fiesta Bowl parade in Phoenix, Arizona.

Two days of activities will bring eighteen Central Minnesota dairy farmers’ daughters to St. Cloud during June Dairy Month. Dairy princesses from Region IV (Benton, Morrison and Todd counties) and Region VI ( Stearns and Sherburne counties) will participate in the Central Minnesota Dairy Days and Regional Princess contest activities. One of the participating candidates includes Todd County Dairy Princess Becky Ward. She will be vying for the title of Region IV Dairy Princess to proceed onto Princess Kay of the Milky Way.


75 Years Ago

June 21, 1945

Three local boys have now returned from prisoner of war camps: Lt. Melvin Milbrath, Lt. Sylvester Dittbenner and Lt. Elmer Grams.

A coin shower at the Sunshine Club was given for Mrs. Folden, nee Margaret Goodale and baby of Marysville, Washington. The purse of silver will be mailed to Mrs. Folden.
