“History is repeating itself,” said a delighted Gary Westergren, “With the reintroduction of pheasants in northern Todd County. It’s really nice to see people coming in to hunt, and staying with relatives or friends instead of paying for motels. Westergren is the president of Ringnecks Forevermore, Inc. who is responsible for the repopulation of pheasants in the area. The past two weekends, the Ray Brasel family, who lives just south of Bertha, has hosted two groups of pheasant hunters.

Gary Richter’s story is a familiar one to anyone who has been farming in the last 20 years. The amount of work continued to increase and the amount of the milk checks continued to decrease. Richter has been in and out of the construction business since 1976. His daughter, Kimberly Washek, has a construction company in Plymouth and that was what inspired him to start his own business, Richter Construction, in March 2000.

November 2, 1950
Bertha’s school district has been increased in area by the addition of Sections 25 and 26, formerly a part of the Eagle Bend district. The State Commissioner of Education has approved the transfer, requested by the residents of the two sections.

The Stodden’s Resort on Lake Miltona has been purchased by Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Kelroy of Bertha. The Kelroys own a cottage near the resort as do a number of other Bertha people.
