25 Years Ago

October 4, 1995

Eric, Heather, Jessica, and Melissa Bakken of rural Hewitt displayed their large pumpkins in this photo. The largest was 110 pounds. The two smaller ones were 59 and 36 pounds. The pumpkins will be on display at the Pizza Hut in Wadena through Halloween.

75 Years Ago

October 4, 1945

Lt. Col. Herman H. Heuer has been appointed as chaplain for the 8th Infantry (Golden Arrow) Division, now stationed at Fort Leonard Wood. It was announced shortly after his arrival from Washington. Chaplain Heuer served as chief of the Technical Information Division in the Office of Chief of Chaplains to Washington from July 1941 to July 1945.

Mr. Leslie W. Anderson will head the 1945 Sale of Christmas Seals in Bertha, according to an announcement made this week by the Minnesota Public Health Association, the state unit of the National Tuberculosis Association. In accepting the appointment as local seal sale chairman, Mr. Anderson said he did so believing that measures for the improvement of health are among the most important tasks confronting American communities today.
