May 18, 1995
At 4:25 p.m. a fire call was received by the Todd County 911 dispatcher notifying them of a fire at the Joe and Margaret Pachan farm located two and a half miles west of Long Prairie. Margaret had seen smoke coming from the barn while in the house and made the call. The Long Prairie Fire Department was on scene by 4:31 p.m. and the barn was totally engulfed in flames. Joe and his son tried to get the livestock out of the barn, but in spite of the doors being opened the animals refused to leave. A pickup truck parked near the barn was a total loss and a car sustained minor damage. Firefighters from Browerville assisted with two tanker trucks. In all, 16 milk cows, four heifers and four calves were lost to the blaze.

The final score was 14-3 in the seventh grade girls softball game at Swanville on May 11. Cassie Gosiak hit yet another homerun for the Rebels. Dana Dickinson was the winning pitcher. The Rebels eighth grade team also was victorious with a 10-7 score over the Patriots. Jill Schultz drilled a line drive homerun to the left field. Sarah Johnson picked up the win.

One of the enjoyable social affairs of the village was held at the city hall Wednesday evening when members of the Browerville Bowling League and those entered in the recently held bowling tournament, entertained at the second annual party, as a fitting climax to a successful bowling season. The alleys at Paderewski Hall were closed two weeks ago, according to L.F. Masonick, head of the league, whose team was awarded winning honors for the season.

Winners at the bowling tournament were Joe Hanych, first price, $12; L.F. Masonick, won the second prize of $6 and Henry Brenny, third prize, $3. Prizes of $2 each were awarded to the remaining six contenders. There were ten entries in all.
