News from Eagle Bend's Past

25 Years Ago

September 11, 1996

Don and Becky Jackson’s rural Eagle Bend farm was one of the 241 Minnesota farms to attain the distinction of “1996 Century Farm.” The farm has actually been in continuous family ownership for 105 years. August Carlson, Don’s maternal great-grandfather, was its first owner.

Junior quarterback Billy Ziedler scored on a one-yard run with 24 seconds left in the game to lead the Rebels to an 18-14 victory over the visiting Menahga team last Friday evening. Menahga had scored with a minute left in the game to take the lead. The Rebels traveled 60 yards in the minute with no time-outs available for the exciting finish.


50 Years Ago

September 9, 1971

Mrs. Kathryn D. Martens Nelson and Mrs. Othella Waldahl, both elementary faculty members at the Eagle Bend Public School, were among the 647 students who completed their programs of study this past summer and were awarded degrees at St. Cloud State College.

“Autumn Days” is the theme the Todd County Republican Women have chosen for their second annual luncheon and fashion show. It will be held on Saturday, September 11, at the Lakeview Club, located two miles south of Long Prairie on Highway 71.
