Thanksgathering
The third annual Thanksgathering was held at the Verndale Alliance Church on Sunday, November 24. Area churches gathered together in worship while 21 pies were being judged. Polly Uselman brought the judges Mark Callahan, Melissa Current and last year's winner Joe Baity, slices of pie (pictured middle). Three top pies were chosen from a wide assortment from peach raspberry, pumpkin pecan, chocolate peppermint and more. They were judged on taste and appearance. A three-way tie went to Tahna Rurup, Betty Reul and Jerry Barrett for fourth place. Third place went to Karla Follingstad with a pumpkin ice cream pie, second place went to Kathy Anderson with a lemon meringue and first place went to Megan Baity with a Rolo cheesecake (pictured at far right). The Verndale Family Life Church retains possession of the trophy for another year. After the service, visitors lined up to try a piece or two of the various pies.
