Wadena County Commissioners: Discussion about ARPA funds gets heated

by Trinity Gruenberg

The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on February 15.

Wadena County Truancy Work Group

County Attorney Kyra Ladd introduced the “school squad”. They started looking at truancy differently due to distance learning. Kids that are not in school and not engaged are missing out. If they miss out it’s hard to catch up. They were trying to figure out how to collaborate as a team and figure out a solution.

Along with Ladd, there is Dan Huebsch with Todd Wadena County Corrections/Community Concern for Youth, Bobbe Anderson, Child Protection supervisor; and Jennifer Westrum, Human Services director.

They meet with school social workers and other personnel. There are issues with housing, transportation or mental health, or chemical dependency issues to address. . .
