August 9, 1995

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 213 of Clarissa presented Jodi Taggart the 1995 Americanism Award. Chair Ardyth Kuhnau was the presenter. The award is given for scholastic ability in four areas—honor, courage, leadership and service. Jodi is the daughter of Ron and Margi Taggart of Clarissa.

Approximately 300 dinners were served at the Farmer’s Union Picnic at the Clarissa Park on Sunday. Cooks on duty to serve the crowd were Violet Zimmer, Ms. Asmus, Gloriane Horn, Margaret Hanson, Connie Sarff, Patsy Thompson, Judy Buhl and Wilma Nauber.


50 Years Ago

August 6, 1970

Dr. Kenneth T. Larson, Evansville dentist, will take over the dental practice of Dr. H.J. Schopf in Clarissa starting August 12. Dr. Larson will begin practice here next week when he will be available in the office from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. every Wednesday and Thursday of each week.

The Clarissa Legion Baseball team battled its two competitors in the sub-district for two victories and the sub-district championship in games played last week. This is further than any local baseball team has advanced. The team completed the season with 11 wins and one loss.
