The Clarissa City Council proposed a plan establishing a tax increment district to remove the old Coast to Coast building. The plan includes buying the property for $11,800 and demolishing the building for $3,200. With administrative costs, the project would cost the city $20,000. The city will be repaid with the taxes it collects. Hansen Lumber is supposed to build a new building on the site, giving the city annual property taxes of $2,485 for the next 25 years.

On Saturday, the Rebels volleyball team traveled to Pequot Lakes for a 16 team tournament. The Rebels opened up the tournament against Blackduck and won 15-9 and 15-13. The team placed third at the tournament, winning the match against Cass Lake. They won 15-11 and 15-13. It was a successful day for the team, although one bad note was that senior Kelly Greene suffered a broken finger.

Allan Holmquist of the Hustlin Rustics 4-H Club of Clarissa exhibited the first place purebred Jersey calf at the Minnesota State Fair. Allen, who has exhibited dairy animals at the State Fair for the past several years, received a beautiful trophy for his top placing. Allen was also the captain of the Herdsmanship Committee which is responsible for keeping the county stall areas clean during the fair. We received a blue rating in the Herdsmanship contest.

Todd County cast a vote that constituted about 50% of its normal voting strength in the primary election on Tuesday. The total county vote came to 5,590, according to County Auditor Nick Truag. Clarissa had 142 voters at the polls, Eagle Valley Township 118, Iona 92, and Germania 52.
